At Galaxy Graffiti, I use spray paint to create cosmic art that brings space down to Earth. If you’ve ever seen one of my paintings and wondered how it’s made, the process is surprisingly simple — and super fun. All you need is a canvas, a few cans of spray paint, and a bowl you don’t mind getting messy. That’s it for materials. The magic is all in the technique.
Step one is all about choosing the color for your planet. Once you’ve got that in mind, spray the paint onto your canvas right where you want your planet to go. Make sure to get enough coverage — this will be the main base color for the planet. Then it’s time to add some texture. Crumple up some newspaper, a magazine page, or any scrap paper into a ball. Unravel it, lay it over your paint, and gently swipe your fingers across it. This creates a cool, bumpy texture that gives your planet its signature look.
Next, grab your bowl and carefully place it over the painted area. This acts as a stencil to keep your planet safe while you work on the rest of the painting. Spray your background color all around the canvas — maybe black for deep space, blue for a nebula, or even pink and purple for a galaxy vibe. Don’t be afraid to layer or mix colors. This is your universe — make it wild.
Now it’s time to bring your stars to life. Grab your white spray paint and lightly flick or spray tiny dots across the canvas to create stars. You can also add in a bunch of random colors here and there to make things feel more cosmic and energetic. Some of the best paintings come from letting loose and trusting the spray.
Finally, the best part — lift the bowl. What’s left behind is your perfectly round, textured planet surrounded by a galaxy of your own design. That’s when the masterpiece really comes together. Every time I do this, it’s like revealing a hidden world. Whether you're a fan of space, graffiti, or just cool art, I hope my process gives you a little glimpse into how Galaxy Graffiti brings the universe to life, one spray at a time.
